报告摘要: In June 2011, three of the world’s leading research funders - the Wellcome Trust, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Max Planck Society - announced plans to launch an open-access journal publishing influential research in the life and biomedical sciences, run by a community of active researchers. eLife was launched at the end of 2012 and the key priorities are to establish a swift and decisive editorial process, to explore ways in which digital media can be used to maximum effect, and to encourage greater transparency and reliability in research communication. Mark will describe the motivations and goals of eLife, the progress so far, and longer term, how the eLife project hopes to act as a catalyst for innovation in research communication.
报告人介绍:Mark Patterson was a researcher in genetics for 12 years before moving into scientific publishing in 1994 as the Editor of Trends in Genetics. After several years at Nature, where he was involved in the launch of the Nature Reviews Journals, he moved to PLOS in 2003. As the Director of Publishing until 2011, Mark helped to launch several of the PLOS Journals and was one of the founders of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association. Mark is currently the Executive Director of eLife, a new open-access initiative supported by the Wellcome Trust, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Max Planck Society, with the aim of exploring new ways to improve the communication of important research findings and ideas in life science and biomedicine.
